Business Open Day:  Have a day for Businesses who are interested in what Linux can do for them come and probe that possibility.

Prerequisites

  • A sufficient group of people with saleable Linux skills as well as a pool of "experts" that can field questions.
  • An assured number of organizations that will participate. The more we know of before hand the better to a) avoid wastes of time and b) prepare examples and demos before hand
  • Possibly Media coverage (Would be helpful for a demo of something in that field so they would have personal reasons to report it)

Open Office - or rather an Open Source Office[OSO] - a demo office that uses only open source applications (I think this should an out of the box "appliance", perhaps installable via apt-get):

  • productivity suites [OO]
  • document management [Plone or Alfresco]
  • intranet[Drupal or Plone]
  • CRM
  • fax management [haylafax tough]
  • mail server, file server
  • internal communication [jabber network, openwengo]...
  • Openbravo (ERP) (can this be used for CRM?)

cant think of anymore now, could the people in the business world add more to this list please

KDE e.V. 2009 Jamaica

    Things to be done:

  • Confirm a place for the meeting
  • seek sponsorship in Jamaica (International will probably be done by KDE e.V.)
  • invite interested parties to attend
  • setup a local registration system
  • possibly organize transportation for JALug members
  • Create a web enabled map for getting from the airport to Negril (OpenStreetMap ?)

OpenCALS (Open Source Computer Aided Learning System)

A collection of the best in open source education and small business techniques and applications designed to help teachers and administrator provide a secure, productive learning environment. Primarily based on (E)ubuntu

Modules

  • Classroom/Lab management
  • Administrative tasks
  • Security and Internet
  • Email and collaboration
  • Web resources

Please make suggestions for the above areas or feel free to add modules. The Open source office is a great project to run with this one.

Needed

  • Indentify project members
  • Finalized applications to be used
  • Identify school(s)
  • Seek sponsorship (donors- PCs) (if needed)
