About the JaLUG

The purpose of the Jamaica Linux User Group (JaLUG).

Formed to be a driving force for the advancement of Linux use in Jamaica, the user group is an information base for Linux catering to both seasoned and new computer users alike. The group has at it's backbone a group of technically inclined individuals who cater to the spectrum of experience levels ranging from Linux geeks and enthusiasts to those who have never seen the Linux Operating System (OS). The group consists of students and professionals in the fields of education, communication and computing all of whom are committed to seeing Linux becoming a mainstream OS nationwide.

Below is an excerpt from our Memorandum of Association

...The objects for which the JALUG is established are:

(A). To promote the dissemination and use of information on Open Source and Linux issues using various forms of modern information and communication technology

(B). To introduce and connect public, private, non-government and community sector agencies and interests to local and international sources of information on Open Source & Linux utilizing the Internet and other tools.

(C).To provide information on Jamaica’s Information and Technology Sector and Technological development via the use of Open Source and Linux.
